About the program

What is the CAUHEC Verified Preceptor Program?

The CAUHEC Verified Preceptor Program is a national recognition program for licensed clinicians who are eligible and available to support clinical training for healthcare students.

Clinicians who receive the CAUHEC Verified Preceptor designation have completed a structured process confirming their professional licensure, clinical specialty, and eligibility to serve as a preceptor. The designation is displayed through a digital badge that can be shared on LinkedIn, professional profiles, and other platforms.

The program is part of CAUHEC Connect, the clinical placement infrastructure platform that connects healthcare education programs with qualified preceptors across nursing, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, allied health, genetic counseling, physician (MD/DO), and pharmacy disciplines.

Verified preceptor designation reflects:
Active professional licensure
Clinical specialty alignment
Eligibility to precept healthcare students
Participation in the CAUHEC Connect network

Why clinical preceptors matter

Every healthcare student needs a qualified clinician willing to share their knowledge.

Clinical preceptors are essential to the training pipeline that produces the nurses, therapists, and practitioners who will care for communities across the country.

The United States faces a significant and growing healthcare workforce challenge. Tens of thousands of qualified nursing applicants are turned away from education programs each year — not because preceptors are unwilling, but because the infrastructure to identify and coordinate with them does not exist at scale.

CAUHEC Connect is building that infrastructure. The CAUHEC Verified Preceptor Program is how we recognize the clinicians who make it possible.

qualified nursing applicants were turned away from U.S. programs in 2025.

Common questions

About the Verified Preceptor Program.

What does CAUHEC Verified Preceptor designation mean?
+

It means a clinician has completed a structured process through CAUHEC Connect that confirms their active professional licensure, clinical specialty, and general eligibility to support healthcare students as a preceptor. It is not a clinical certification and does not determine scope of practice or clinical competency.

Is this a professional certification?
+

No. The CAUHEC Verified Preceptor designation is a platform verification and professional recognition, not a professional certification or credentialing program. Academic programs and clinical sites remain responsible for confirming that individual preceptors meet their specific requirements.

How long does verification take?
+

Standard review is completed within five to seven business days of a complete submission. You will be notified through the CAUHEC Connect platform when your review is complete.

How long does the designation last?
+

Verification is maintained on an annual basis. Verified Preceptors will be prompted through the CAUHEC Connect platform to confirm continued licensure and eligibility each year.

Is there a cost to apply?
+

Please visit cauhec.org or contact us at contactus@cauhec.org for current information about program access and any applicable fees.

Does being a Verified Preceptor guarantee I will be matched with students?
+

Verification makes your profile visible and searchable to academic programs and clinical coordinators using the CAUHEC Connect platform. It does not guarantee placement requests or student assignments, as those depend on institutional partnerships, specialty needs, and availability.

FAQs

Everything you need to know.

Is this free for students?
+

Yes, completely — when your school is a member. Schools fund the stipends from their existing budgets or grants. Students pay nothing extra beyond their normal tuition.

What if my employer doesn't allow this?
+

Most hospitals already have affiliation agreements with local schools. We work within existing frameworks — you're just getting fairly compensated for mentoring you might already do.

How much time commitment is required?
+

You control everything. Set your own schedule, choose how many students, approve every match. Most rotations are 8–12 weeks with students following your existing shifts.

What about liability and insurance?
+

This is covered under the school affiliation agreement — the same way it works in any clinical rotation today.

What if the student isn't prepared or motivated?
+

You approve every match and can set your own standards. Schools want their students to succeed, so they'll ensure quality placements. You can also end a rotation early if something's not working.

How do payments work?
+

Schools pay stipends directly through our secure platform. You choose your rate expectations, and we match you with schools that meet your requirements. Funds are pre-confirmed before any connection is initiated.

Is this just for certain specialties?
+

Currently launching with Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Physicians (MD/DO), Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Genetic Counseling, and Allied Health. If you're in another field, download the app to join the waitlist — we're expanding based on demand.

Why this exists

Built by healthcare professionals, for healthcare professionals.

With 25+ years as a frontline nurse in Burn, Trauma, ER, ICU, and as a healthcare executive, Dr. Elaina McAdams has lived your world. She's managed $475M+ in healthcare budgets and helped scale a healthcare staffing startup to unicorn status.

After watching qualified students get rejected from programs — not for lack of ability, but lack of placement opportunities — she decided enough was enough.

"I've been the overworked nurse asked to take students for free. I've been the administrator scrambling for preceptors. This system is broken, and we are working to fix it."

No long-term contracts. No catches. Just opportunity.

Preceptors & clinical opportunities

Across multiple specialties and regions — not limited to who's local to you.

Search by discipline & specialty

In-platform messaging

Communicate with preceptors directly inside the app — no personal phone numbers or DMs.

The reality

Built for today's broken placement reality.

Too many students are forced to:

×
Cold call clinics
×
Rely on social media groups
×
Navigate informal payment arrangements
×
Compete for limited local placements
×
Delay graduation for missing hours
CAUHEC Connect was built to modernize and professionalize the clinical placement process.
Why it's different

Accountability, safety, and transparency matter.

Our platform is designed to create greater transparency and accountability throughout the placement process — for students, preceptors, and the schools coordinating between them.

Stipend-supported experiences: milestone-based workflows help ensure compensation is connected to completed requirements and agreed-upon expectations.
  • Secure in-platform chat and communication
  • Structured coordination workflows
  • Milestone-based payment processes tied to completed requirements
  • Documentation tracking and visibility
  • Reduced risk associated with informal placement arrangements
  • Secure reporting pathways for suspicious behavior or inappropriate interactions
  • Ability to provide feedback regarding underperforming or nonresponsive preceptors
  • Improved oversight and accountability for placement experiences
CAUHEC Verified Preceptor Program

What "CAUHEC Verified" means on a preceptor profile.

The CAUHEC Verified Preceptor designation reflects a clinician's active professional licensure, clinical specialty alignment, and eligibility to support healthcare students — confirmed through a structured review by CAUHEC Connect. When you see the Verified mark on a profile, you'll know that clinician has completed the program. Learn more about what verification involves.

Two paths

However you access the platform.

Through a partner school or independently — the platform is designed for both.

Partner schools

For students at CAUHEC Connect partner institutions

Students attending partner institutions may receive:

  • Expanded access to preceptors and clinical opportunities
  • Institution-supported coordination workflows
  • Increased visibility into available placement options
  • Reduced administrative burden
  • Additional compliance and approval support through their school
Independent

For students searching independently

Students searching on their own gain access to:

  • National visibility into clinical opportunities
  • A centralized platform instead of fragmented searching
  • More control over their placement journey
  • Greater transparency and professional coordination support
No more informal payment arrangements
Payments are held in our secure platform — aligned with your clinical requirements. Funds are held against the clinical hours and milestones you signed up for. No one can walk away with your money without delivering the clinical experience you paid for.
More than a placement platform

Building the infrastructure for the next generation of healthcare.

CAUHEC Connect is helping build the infrastructure needed to expand healthcare workforce training capacity nationwide.

Because students should be focused on learning — not spending months searching for clinical placements.
